Start the Conversation at Your School

My Ascension is a nationally recognized documentary being used in schools across the country to spark life-saving conversations around youth mental health and suicide prevention. Centered on Emma Benoit’s journey after surviving a suicide attempt at 16, the film opens the door to honest dialogue, connection, and lasting change for students, educators, and families.

Aidan’s Light brings My Ascension to schools across Southeastern Minnesota as part of our mission to break the stigma around mental health and prevent youth suicide. After losing Aidan in 2020, we knew these conversations couldn’t wait. By partnering with schools to host screenings, live Q&As with Emma, and resource-based events, we’re creating space for students to feel seen, supported, and reminded that their story isn’t over.

Empowering Students to Support One Another

In addition to hosting screenings of My Ascension, Aidan’s Light is committed to fostering lasting change by supporting schools in launching peer-led mental health initiatives like Hope Squad. This evidence-based program trains students—nominated by their peers—to recognize signs of emotional distress, offer support, and connect classmates with trusted adults.

Hope Squad has been implemented in thousands of schools across the U.S. and Canada, with over 98% of school administrators reporting that the program promotes a positive school climate (Hope Squad, 2023). By empowering students to be proactive in supporting their peers, Hope Squad helps create a culture of connectedness and care within the school community.

Aidan’s Light offers grants to schools in Southeastern Minnesota to assist with the implementation of Hope Squad programs. These grants can help cover costs associated with training, materials, and ongoing support.
